packing like I've never packed before!

August 9, 2010

Hey everyone! I thought it would be fun if I kept a blog about my first year living alone (collective gasp)! I considered a webshow (READ: I wish I were iCarly) but then decided I definitely will NOT have time to record and edit an entire show, seeing as I managed to sign up for SIX HOURS of science next semester. Nice.

Right now though, I'm still chilling in the Schamptons at my parents place and packing. I should mention, my mom really really likes it when I make a mess and dont clean it up for weeks, as I'm sure, most moms do, so naturally, I thought it would be fun if I brought everything we've bought for #myfirstplace and placed it in our living room. (see pic!)

I'm pretty pumped about living on my own on my parents tab. Far as I'm concerned, that's pretty much as good as it's going to get! There have been some interesting times this summer shopping for different things for aforementioned apartment though. My parents seem to think that the type of pots/skillets I get is really important. So much so, in fact, they took time out of their lives in IKEA to argue about it. Pretty friggin' ridic, if you asked me, since THEY ARE ALL SILVER AND BORING. If they were like, Hmm hot pink pots or the pale, classy pink pots, THEN we would have something to fight about (pale pink would win, because that's just class). But no. They are all the same.

Also at IKEA, we were looking at TV stands. In the my landlord's infinite wisdom, there is no TV stand provided in the otherwise "furnished" apartment. Thus, we, being my parents, myself, and any poor, unsuspecting employee who might cross our path, have spent a good portion of August looking for a viable option. Now would be a good time to mention that my favorite magazine is Costal Living, though I live pretty much as far from a coast as you can get in Misery. I like nautical themed things, blues, greens, whites, creams...For as much as I hate the heat, I would move to the coast just for their style. Naturally, dark wood seems to be en vogue, as they say, this season at the "tarjayy" and, lucky me, everyone who is anyone seems to have FORGOTTEN entirely what it means to be coastal.
What I mean by that, is that I can't find a cheap, cute and white TV stand. Friggin' ridiculous. So I've scoured the internet and though I can't top the $52 ugly, "expresso" colored TV stand from the targets, I found one, (figure two) for the only mildly obscene price of $170 at THE IKEA.

Well. My parents think it's just silly of me to "waste" $170 of their money on a TV stand that "I'll only use one year..." Well, yes. Maybe it is. OR maybe I'll put it in my room when I get home. Or continue using it for years to come? WHY DOESN'T ANYONE UNDERSTAND THIS!?
Le sigh. The trauma of spending other people's money...

Well! That is all I can think of for today; will share more boring stories about my life in the near future!
